After a chase that ended in the Bristow area, Prince William County Police arrested Jeffrey Brian Frye, 40, of Woodbridge Tuesday when he nearly hit a police officer fleeing an attempted grand larceny of a Home Depot store in Manassas.

Employees of the Stream Walk Lane home improvement store called police after observing a man, later identified as the accused, cutting open packages and removing battery packs.

"The man fled out of the store and was spotted by officers in the parking lot,” police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.  “As officers were attempting to stop the man, he was able to get into his vehicle and nearly struck an officer before fleeing.”

Officers followed Frye to the vicinity of University Boulevard and Wellington Road where he surrendered to police without further incident.

Police charged the suspect with attempted malicious wounding of a LEO (law enforcement officer), attempted grand larceny, felony eluding, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.

Frye’s court date and bond information were unavailable.
