Train Strikes Car on Gainesville Crossing

For the third time in just over a year, police report an accident on Lee Highway involving a Norfolk Southern train and a car.

The police report no injuries; however, they will keep that section of U.S. Route 29 closed until the train can be moved.

According to the Facebook page PWC Scanner Bums, the crew of the train indicated that there was only minor damage to the car.

“Crew reporting the driver had room on either side of the crossing but ‘froze,’” they posted.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. Wednesday.
