Mary Petrilla of Bristow was startled awake Tuesday morning when a wild turkey flew into her bedroom, smashing through her closed window.
According to Petrilla's husband, Tom Petrilla, who had left for work before the incident, the turkey crashed through double pane window and the Venetian blinds into the room on the second floor of their Aspire Court home.
"He landed on the floor then hid behind a rocking chair; our two cats ran under the bed," he said. " Shattered glass covered the room, and Mary ran out of the room shrieking and closed the door."
The terrified turkey, who could not escape the room, eventually settled on their bed.
"His sharp spurs on the back of his legs made my wife afraid to approach him," he said.Prince William County Police Officers eventually corral the bird to an open window, where he escaped unharmed.
"I have never heard of this before in my experience and is definitely a unique event," Prince William County Police spokesperson Officer Nathan Probus said.
