VDOT Announces Overnight I-66 Lane Closures

Posted

I-66_trafficTo accommodate the ongoing I-66 widening project, which will add one regular and one HOV lane in each direction from Route 29 in Gainesville to Route 15 in Haymarket, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close lanes overnight between June 1-2 to install a dynamic message sign.

Closures are planned during off-peak hours to avoid hindering residents’ commute.

Single lane closures will occur between 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 and 5 a.m. Thursday, June 2 on eastbound I-66 near mile marker 42, between Route 15 and Route 29.

"Intermittent total closures of up to 20 minutes will begin at approximately midnight,"a VDOT spokesperson said in a statement. "One travel lane will be reopened after each total closure to allow traffic queues to clear."

The $65 million project is scheduled for completion in August.
