The Virginia Department of Transportation continues to focus on neighborhoods and preparing for an overnight refreeze on county roads.
"As of noon today, northern Virginia interstates and primary roads are clear," a VDOT spokesperson said. "Virginia Department of Transportation crews have also made at least one snowplow pass on secondary roads and most neighborhood streets in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, and continue working to make those roads passable." According to VDOT, plows cannot scape the frozen layer, so residents should expect snow-packed paths or icy patches. "Neighborhoods will have an eight- to ten-foot path but not bare pavement," they said. VDOT said crews will remain on duty overnight and throughout the week to treat trouble spots due to extremely low temperatures. They are also monitoring the chance for some snow tomorrow, which could bring an additional layer of precipitation to refreeze. Residents can continue to check road conditions at www.511virginia.org.
