EMPTY SHELTER PROJECT: Young Male Dog Sprung from Shelter, Seeks Companionship

Posted

This handsome boy’s name is Mega or "Mega Head" as we like to affectionately call him. He is a pit bull, who is is just barely one year old. He is a very sweet boy and loves being with people.

Mega was in an animal shelter where he was deteriorating rapidly. He is a very smart boy, and we think he knew that the shelter was not a fun place to be. He was stressed out, not eating and just not happy. He was scheduled for euthanasia, and we were heartbroken.

We took to our computers and posted him on our Facebook page, on Craigslist and anywhere we could think of to get the word out about this special guy. He got well over 200 shares and tons of messages of support, and finally the day before he was scheduled to be put down, someone stepped up and agreed to foster him.

We got Mega in fewer than 24 hours before his euthanasia. Since day one he has been a really good boy! He’s definitely a lot happier out of the shelter and is very grateful for being saved.

Because he spent so much of his short life at the shelter, he still has basic house manners to learn. He spent so much time in a run he's not used to being in a house, but he's a quick learner. He just needs a patient but firm teacher to show him the ropes.

He's done well in his foster home and is learning to do's and don'ts of living the good life. His foster mom has successfully potty-trained him, so he no longer has accident. He has met lots of other dogs and seems to do well with them, and has given his paw to everyone he has met!

He is slowly opening up, and as he does, we are getting a sneak preview as to what a wonderful companion he is going to make. He is now only missing one thing, his furever home.

If you can see Mega being the right pet for you, please contact the volunteers at the Empty Shelter Project (ESP) by phone: 571 288 2878 or 571 991 9642, email: adopt@espnova.org or find us on Facebook!

Besides Mega, the ESP has a number of dogs and cats all needing to be adopted. They can help you find one right for you and your family.

The Empty Shelter Project is an all-volunteer foster-based animal rescue group in Prince William County dedicated to saving the lives of animals in danger of euthanasia in animal shelters across America. ESP also strives to help educate the public about issues regarding the pet overpopulation crisis to help prevent and decrease the amount of animals entering shelters annually.
