Police Arrest Gainesville Man for Wounding Officer, Threatening Family with Gun

Attempted Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – Prince William County officers responded to a residence on the 7800 block of Carrick Drive in Gainesville to investigate an initial report of a domestic dispute with weapons, Feb. 17 at 9:20 a.m. 

"The investigation revealed the accused was armed with a handgun and involved in a verbal dispute with other family members inside the home," said the PIO officer. "When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the accused through a window on an upper floor of the home."

As officers were evacuating other family members from the home, including four children, the accused fired a round from the upper floor toward the officers and his family.

No injuries were reported, and all occupants were escorted to safety.

The accused eventually surrendered to the police without further incident.

Following the investigation, Police arrested, the accused, identified as Jessy William Szypulski, 34, of the 7800 block of Carrick Drive in Gainesville,  on Feb. 17.

Szypulski was charged with 4 counts of attempted malicious wounding of an LEO, 5 counts of attempted malicious wounding, 5 counts of brandishing, 1 count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and 1 count of reckless handling.

His court date is pending. He is being held without bond.
