New iPhone Rumored Sept. 10; Apple CEO Criticized by Own Board

While everyone seems to want to take a bite out of Apple lately, Amazon for the iBookstore, Samsung for various patents, now it's the Apple's Board of Directors who are questioning CEO Tim Cook’s ability to innovate Apple products.

Besides the rumored iWatch or iTV, the buzz around Apple is that in the next few months, they will only release incremental upgrades to their existing product lines, such as the iPhone 5S, which AllThingsD reports, is expected to debut Sept. 10.

The upgrade could include camera and processor enhancements and perhaps a fingerprint sensor.

According to Fox Business News correspondent Charlie Gasparino, the Apple Board of Directors are nervous, and they are pushing Cook to run the company more like Steve Jobs, the Co-Founder of Apple who died in 2011.

“That concern is basically manifesting into pressure on Tim Cook to innovate — do something fast,” said Gasparino.

However, he does not assert that Cook’s job is in jeopardy. The Apple board will continue to support Cook, with hopes that the support will translate into more innovation.

The board includes former Vice President of the United States Al Gore, Walt Disney Company President and CEO Robert Iger and Intuit Chairman Bill Campbell.

While the fall could see the release of the iPhone 5S, the less expensive iPhone 5C, the iPad Mini 2 and the iPad 5, products that will be embraced by consumers, some are growing impatient for Apple’s next revolutionary product.

The release of the first generation iPhone in 2007 and the iPad in 2010 helped Apple reshape these respective industries, making Apple one of the world's most valuable publicly traded companies.

Apple is betting on the success of the soon-to-be released new version of their mobile operating system, iOS 7, which they purport will be the world’s most advanced, featuring an all-new design and features. They have also pledged continued support for OS X, the operating system that drives their desktop and laptop computer products.

Whether this development will sustain Apple’s momentum or not remains to be seen.
