Security measures were initiated at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 at Brentsville District High and Nokesville Elementary School after a school resource officer reported a suspicious individual carrying a gun was spotted within the vicinity of Brentsville District High School.

“This action is precautionary,” a Prince William County School representative reported shortly after the incident.

At 1:20 p.m. Prince William County Police identified the suspect as a child with an airsoft gun. The child was found within the Nokesville area along Route 28, but not on school property, according to police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Secure-the-building modes have since been lifted at Nokesville Elementary and Brentsville District High School, and all students and staff members are safe.

The child will not face any charges, since “no crime was committed,” Perok said.
