After Snow Comes Bitter Cold

As the snow tapers off Monday afternoon, the area will face another winter hazard, extreme cold.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday will probably stay below freezing.

"Tuesday will be the transition day, coming out of potentially record-breaking cold overnight with lows in the single digits and teens areawide," an NWS forecaster said.

Wind chill values could be as low as -6 degrees.

"After this current low pressure system is brushed off the coast later tonight and the arctic airmass has settled across the region...we will have a couple of quiet - albeit cold - days midweek," NWS said.

While Tuesday night will be slightly warmer than Monday, temperatures are still 20 degrees below average for this time of year.

"After the arctic high moves off the coast on Wednesday, each day will get a few degrees higher into the weekend," they said. "A high pressure ridge building in behind a thursday-friday offshore system will allow for another brief period of warmer temperature, into the 40s and 50s with the highest on Saturday."
