NWS Warns of Refreezing on Local Roads

blackiceThe National Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning of sub-freezing temperatures causing untreated surfaces to re-freeze overnight.

"A steady breeze from the north will dry out some surface areas late tonight; however, any standing water leftover on untreated surfaces is expected to freeze," NWS said in the statement.

Temperatures will fall steadily early Tuesday morning behind a cold front; overnight lows are expected to reach upper 20s and low 30s across the region before dawn.

"Dry and cold north winds will remain over the area into the daytime hours on Tuesday, keeping temperatures nearly locked into near freezing range," they said.

The weather service warns motorists to be alert for potential  patches of ice tonight and during the morning commute on Tuesday.
