WEATHER BEAT: Coldest Air of the Season Arrives

Posted

For all you snow lovers, it looks like this round will be a disappointment, but not to worry, it's only mid-November.

In terms of the snow, we discussed three scenarios last week, and the storm decided to take scenario three and basically go off the coast with no impact to the east coast. With that said, Tuesday, we saw another disturbance associated with a lot of cold air sinking down from Canada. Even with cold temperatures, the mercury still stayed above freezing.

For the rest of the week, Wednesday through Saturday looks dry, with cold temperatures continuing for Wednesday. Morning lows Wednesday morning could drop as cold as the upper teens, but there is a warming trend. By Saturday, we could see highs in the low 60s.

Looking long range, we expect to see temperatures at or slightly below average. We do not see any significant snow in the near future, but stay tuned, and we’ll let you know if that changes.

Also, our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to all the victims of the super typhoon that struck the Philippians last week. It was the strongest cyclone to ever make landfall since records have been kept. I have actually been in a super typhoon a few times in Japan before, but never a category 5. Seeing concrete buildings completely collapsed is beyond comprehension.

“My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
