WEATHER BEAT: Dreary Week Ahead for Residents

Posted

It’s a beautiful day if you’re a duck! It looks like the next few days will be quite soggy.

As of Monday night, the first round of precipitation has passed through. We saw about a tenth of an inch of rain on Monday. We could see up to half an inch of rain during the day on Tuesday. Tuesday will also be quite chilly with temperatures in the 50s for much of the day.

The day to watch right now is Wednesday. The National Weather Service has already issued a flash flood watch from Tuesday evening until Wednesday evening for potential flash flooding. We could potentially see anywhere from 2-3 inches of rain on Wednesday alone. I am also expecting a warm front lift through, which will allow temperatures to jump about 20 degrees into the mid-70s for highs on Wednesday. With the warmer temperatures and an approaching cold front to the west, we will have a good setup for some thunderstorms, some of which could become severe. There is also the chance for a few tornados, primarily to our south.

I am expecting things to start drying out by Thursday, but we could still see a few lingering showers Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, we could see some sun peek out, which will be a welcome sight by then. Friday looks sunny and cool with highs in the mid-60s. Another chance for some showers on Saturday associated with a coastal storm. We’ll keep an eye on that one for you.

Have a great week and try to stay dry.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
