WEATHER BEAT: Potential For Snow Could Impact Holiday Travel

Posted

weatherbeatlogoMany of you are frantically shopping the stores to get everything you need for your turkey dinner, but could you also be stocking up on snow shovels as well? Your Bristow weatherman is currently tracking a winter storm that could cause major travel disruptions from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast.

Preliminary models are now indicating that areas along the I-95 corridor from Richmond, Virginia to Maine could see significant snowfall that will likely cause travel disruptions on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Portions of New England could see upwards of a foot of snow while places like New Jersey could see anywhere from 3-6 inches of snow. Locally, I’m predicting anywhere from 1-3 inches of snow. I am also predicting that everybody will start as rain and transition over to sleet and snow. The timing of this transition will impact snow totals.

One thing to keep in mind is that temperatures are currently forecast to remain above freezing for most of Wednesday, which would result in lower snow totals. While snow totals may still be questionable, road conditions could deteriorate rapidly with little warning.

Stay safe this Thanksgiving and stay tuned for more updates.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
