Brentsville Town Hall Planned to Discuss Land Use Proposals

Supervisor Jeanine Lawson (R) will hold a Brentsville Town Hall Meeting at Masteller Middle School on Sudley Manor Drive, Thursday, Sept. 10 from 7-9 p.m. The meeting is planned to discuss land use proposals and applications. All are welcome.

The land applications and development projects to be discussed are the All Area Dulles Muslim Society (ADAMS), Rollins Ford Park high school site, Sheetz at Sudley Manor, Stone Haven and the Strathmore development (formerly known as Pioneer Assemblage.)

Lawson said she values citizen input in regards to land use decision.

“As you know, land use decisions made by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) have a direct effect on your community and your daily lives; traffic, parks and recreation, schools and taxes to name a few,” Lawson wrote. “It is very important to me that our residents have the facts and also understand the processes required for land use applications.”

Lawson’s team described the various land use projects as follows:

•All Area Dulles Muslim Society (ADAMS)

Proposed Special Use Permit for a religious institution accommodating 500 worshipers at the corner of Schaeffer Lane and Vint Hill Road.

Rollins Ford Park High School Site

Board of County Supervisors proposed trade of Avendale school site property for Rollins Ford Park property for a high school site at Rollins Ford Road and Vint Hill Road.

Sheetz at Sudley Manor

Proposed Special Use Permit for a gas station/convenience store in Braemar at the corner of Sudley Manor Drive and Vint Hill Road.

Stone Haven

Resubmitted Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Rezoning for 1,006 homes with some commercial located at Linton Hall, Devlin and Wellington roads.

Strathmore (formerly known as Pioneer Assemblage)

Brookfield proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Rezoning for 405 homes adjacent to Braemar at the corner of Pioneer Drive and Vint Hill Road.

Lawson along with Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland (R), and school board representatives Gil Trenum (Brentsville) and Alyson Satterwhite (Gainesville) recommended Rollins Ford Park as the site of the county’s 13th high school. It is intended to help alleviate severe overcrowding at Patriot and Battlefield high schools and possibly also alleviate Stone Wall Jackson High School, which is also over capacity.

Meanwhile, Prince William County Schools is holding its own public meeting to discuss the proposed 13th high school.

During the 13th high school press conference, Lawson said she was not in favor of the Strathmore development put forth by Brookfield Homes.

Lawson had also been critical of Stone Haven as it had previously been proposed before the Board of County Supervisors. This is likely the reason the developer chose to defer the application request.

Stone Haven, had it been approved, would have been the largest development in the Brentsville District to date.

The ADAMS worship and community center had fallen under community scrutiny centered around parking issues and its location within the rural crescent, and its proximity to Patriot High School, which already produces traffic congestion for residents.

Those who have questions about the meeting are invited to contact Lawson's office.
