Brentsville District senior midfielder Peyton McGovern is the Virginia High School League's Class 3 Player of the Year, and Brentsville District head coach Scott Kerns is the Class 3 Coach of the Year.

The two-time Class 3 Player of the Year, the Florida State-bound attacking midfielder finished her brilliant season with 32 goals and 26 assists. McGovern’s two goals in the state final led the Tigers to their second-straight state title with a 2-1 win over Western Albemarle.

Her first goal came from the penalty spot with six minutes left in regulation, and then a 30-yard screamer in the first overtime for the game-winner. A three-time first-team all-state selection, McGovern finished her career with 91 goals and 75 assists.

In his second season leading the Brentsville program, Kerns has produced back-to-back state championships.

Kerns now owns a 39-3-0 record after stepping down as the head girls coach at Colgan for one season in 2017 after taking over the program in its inaugural season. Before leaving for Colgan, Kerns coached 13 seasons at Woodbridge, leading the Vikings to a 161-63-1 record, qualifying for the state tournament three times, including two trips to the state semifinals.

Head Coach Scott Kerns preps Brentsville during pre-game for the state quarterfinals against Tabb.

The all-state soccer team consists of five forwards, five midfielders, five defenders, and one goalkeeper. Only those players selected first-team all-region are eligible for selection to the all-state team. The all-state selection committee comprises eight coaches, with two from each region.
