UPDATE: Gainesville Man Charged with Murder in Potomac Shores Basketball Court Shooting

The 19-year-old suspect has been charged in the murder of an 18-year-old Dumfries man

UPDATE: Murder Investigation ADDITIONAL ARREST -  Prince William Police have arrested a third suspect sought in connection with the murder of Louis Anthony Boone, 18, who was killed during a shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway in Dumfries on March 9.

March 23, Prince William County detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force in Richmond, took suspect J’Shaun Zomari Williams, 19, of Gainesville into their custody.

Williams was charged with 2nd degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharge firearm into an occupied dwelling, willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, concealed carry, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

His court date is pending. He is being held without bond.

Police have also arrested Ryan Alexander Butler, 20, of Triangle, and one juvenile, in connection with the incident.

Police searching for Williams since March 13. 

PREVIOUSLY RELEASED

Homicide Investigation– On March 9 at 5:33 p.m., officers responded to an outdoor recreational area located in the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway in Dumfries to investigate a shooting.

The investigation revealed that several individuals were playing basketball on the courts nearby when another group arrived. During the encounter, a confrontation ensued between the arriving group and some of the individuals previously on the courts. At one point, gunfire was exchanged, which caused everyone to disperse from the area.

Officers arrived at the scene quickly and located an individual with a gunshot wound.

As the investigation progressed, another individual was located at a nearby home on Spring Cress Drive, while three other individuals had self-transported to different hospitals in the area where they were determined to be connected to the incident.

In total, five males between 16 and 20 years of age were shot.

One of the individuals, 18-year-old man, Louis Anthony Boone, 18, of Dumfries, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The remaining injured parties are expected to recover.

The injured parties were preliminarily identified as a 20-year-old man of Woodbridge, a 16-year-old male juvenile of Dumfries, and two 17-year-old male juveniles, both of Woodbridge

Several witnesses and other possibly involved individuals were initially detained. Police do not believe the incident was random. The investigation continues.

Detectives obtained charges against one of the injured juveniles involved in the incident.

The juvenile has since been released from the hospital and is in custody.

On March 13, Prince William County detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, arrested suspect Ryan Alexander Butler, at his home in Triangle.

Butler was charged with 2nd degree murder, discharge firearm into an occupied dwelling, willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and concealed carry.   His court date is pending. He is being held without bond. 

Also on March 13, police executed a search warrant at Williams’ home in Gainesville; however, the accused was not located at that time.
