NWS Issues RED FLAG Fire Warning for Virginia, Maryland, West Va

The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING in effect from noon today until 8 p.m. in DMV metro area, Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, Baltimore, and the Eastern West Virginia Panhandle. 

A RED FLAG WARNING means that fires can easily spread through trees, grass, weeds, etc. This RED FLAG WARNING is the result of expected gusty winds, low humidity and warm temperatures. 

"All outdoor fires are discouraged as fires could quickly spread and become uncontrollable," said the NWS, urging people to take the warning seriously. 

The National Weather Service in Baltimore expects winds from the west at 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35-45 mph.  Meanwhile, humidity is as low as 18 percent, and moisture is dropping to around 7-8 percent. 

As a result, critical fire weather conditions are expected through the evening.
