With 16/17 precincts reporting, Bob Weir-R appears to be the winner of the Feb. 21 Special Election for Gainesville Supervisor as the lead has become insurmountable.
The makeup of the board will continue to be three Republicans and five Democrats.

Key Issues
The main issue of the election was the proliferation of data centers outside the overlay district. Weir made it clear he opposes data centers in residential areas. He also opposed the Prince William Digital Gateway in the Catharpin area of Gainesville.
Weir also advocated for preserving the rural area, avoiding new high-density housing, and being fiscally responsible.
The election results place the Prince William Digital Gateway in a more precarious position, although Democrats in favor of the project still control the board.

Votes by Precinct
Sumer carried the Manassas and Sudley areas of the Gainesville District, whereas Weir carried suburban and rural Gainesville.
Weir did best in less dense areas of the district, with the exception of Catharpin where the vote was very close. This is likely due to the fight over the Prince William Digital Gateway. Many landowners hope to sell their land while others want to conserve it.
