Patrick Harders has secured the Republican nomination for the Gainesville District in the race to succeed the late Bob Weir on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.
Harders, 51, defeated opponent Brian Landrum, 32, 1,838 votes to 840, earning 69% of the vote, according to a Prince William County Republican Committee Facebook post.
The primary was held Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bull Run Middle School in Gainesville.
Harders is a small business owner who has lived in the Gainesville District for nearly two decades, while Landrum is an attorney who moved from Woodbridge to Gainesville in June.
The two faced off Tuesday in a candidate forum at Giuseppe's Ristorante in Haymarket.
"The Prince William County Republican Committee congratulates Patrick Harders on his victory in today’s Gainesville District firehouse primary," the committee said on Facebook. "This strong turnout shows the tremendous enthusiasm and energy among Republicans as we gear up to hold the Gainesville Supervisor seat this November. Together, we are building momentum to deliver common-sense leadership and keep Prince William County moving in the right direction."
A “conservative Republican,” according to his campaign announcement, Harders touted a "commitment to community-driven leadership, fiscal accountability, and responsible development.” He has voiced opposition to the planned PW Digital Gateway data center project.
Harders will face Democrat George C. Stewart, Nov. 4 in a special election.
