Police Arrest Mom for Leaving Toddler in Vehicle While Shopping

Prince William Police Officers responded to the Walmart located at 6530 Trading Square in Haymarket (20169) to investigate an unaccompanied child, Sept. 24 at 6:56 p.m.

The investigation revealed a bystander observed a child, later identified as a 23-month-old girl, alone inside a locked vehicle in the parking lot.

With the assistance of fire and rescue personnel, entry was made into the vehicle. The child was unharmed.

While attempting to locate a family member or guardian, the child’s mother returned to the vehicle and was detained.

Following the investigation, police charged Maria Taib, 29, of Caribean Court, Haymarket, with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. 

She was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  Her count date is pending. She has been released on a court summons.
