Patriot, Gar-Field Open with Big Wins

Jackson McCarter ran for five touchdowns Friday as visiting Patriot beat Westfield 41-24 for the first time in the program's history.

The Villanova commitment scored three of his touchdowns in the first half to give the Pioneers a 20-10 lead.

Quarterback Tyler Knutson connected with Diasian Noakes on a deep touchdown pass for Patriot's other touchdown.

Pioneers' head coach Sean Finnerty praised his offensive line for their stellar play upfront.

Coming into Friday, Patriot was 0-3 against Westfield, including a 35-7 loss to the Bulldogs last season.

GAR-FIELD 39, UNITY REED 7: Troy Hamlin accounted for five touchdowns as the host Red Wolves won Friday.

The quarterback threw four touchdown passes and ran for another. Two of his touchdown passes went to James Blacker.

Herman Jackson and Dajquan Lovard each caught a touchdown pass and Morris Davis ran for one in first-year head coach Zach Edmunds debut.

Terry Walden had an interception and Gio Cooper forced a fumble for Gar-Field (1-0).
