National Weather Service Predicts Icy Conditions for Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory from 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5 to 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 6. for Northern Virginia and the DMV area. 

Wednesday night, NWS said to expect rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet. The low is around 32 Fahrenheit, just below freezing. 

Drivers should take caution and expect slippery conditions due to borderline freezing temperatures, rain, sleet, and ice. 

The chance of precipitation is 100%. 

Thursday
 
Rain is possibly mixed with sleet before 11 a.m., then a chance of rain between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. High near 53 F.
 
NWS expects winds from 6 to 13 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 100%. Additional sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

..WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING
TO 10 AM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
  accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations between a glaze
  up to one tenth of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of DC, central, northeast, northern, and southern
  Maryland, and central, northern, and northwest Virginia.

* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light sleet moves into the area this evening,
  then a mix of freezing rain and sleet develops after midnight.
  Most of the area will see a mix of sleet and freezing rain through
  the night, with rain mixing in along and east of Interstate 95.
  Temperatures will warm Thursday morning after sunrise, and
  precipitation transitions to rain.
